I honestly have no recollection of any other band that was on the bill that night. A friend in a long-gone San Diego band once assured me that I had seen STP play with them in their previous incarnation, Mighty Joe Young. Which, as it goes, may not be entirely true. Still, like many in the early вЂ90s, I came around to Nirvana, and even came to deeply appreciate songs such as вЂњSmells Like Teen SpiritвЂќ for its merging of musicianship and punk ethos:But if I was late to the Nirvana game, I nearly missed Stone Temple Pilots entirely. Nirvana was one of those once-a-generation bands that pretty much changes the entire game for everybody, whether you like them or not. And if I'm perfectly honest, I have to wonder if there's really a lot of free-floating nostalgia for Stone Temple Pilots.
